Product philosophy

Search infrastructure observability — not adtech surveillance.

WebmasterID is built for the people who actually own the websites: founders, publishers, SEO operators, programmatic-content teams, and AI-native sites that need visibility into what humans and AI systems are reading.

What this product is for

Analytics for builders, not for ad networks.

Most analytics tools were designed in the cookie era to support advertising retargeting. They optimise for visitor identification, behavioral profiling, and downstream sale of audience segments. WebmasterID was designed instead to answer a different question: what content is actually being read, by which kind of audience, on which surface — including AI assistants?

That reframing changes every architectural choice. We don't collect what we don't need. We don't store what we don't surface. We don't expose any identifier that could be used to track a person across sites — because the product never has any reason to.

Operating principles

Six commitments the product is built around.

  • Privacy-first by architecture

No third-party cookies, no localStorage tracking, no fingerprinting. The product cannot recognise the same visitor across sites because it does not try to.

  • First-party event ingestion

Browser events POST directly to a single ingest endpoint. No tag-management vendors, no chained third-party scripts.

  • AI-search-aware out of the box

AI assistants and crawlers are first-class signals. Their visits are routed to a separate observability path so they never pollute human aggregates.

  • Strongly-typed everywhere

Strict TypeScript across the tracker, ingest API, dashboard, and shared packages. Event shapes are validated end to end.

  • Modular monorepo, infra-grade foundations

pnpm + Turborepo, Drizzle on PostgreSQL today, designed to migrate to ClickHouse and edge ingestion as load grows.

  • Useful out of the box, no dark patterns

No upsell prompts, no growth-hack popups, no analytics that require selling data to make sense. The product is the product.

Audience

Who this is for.

WebmasterID is for indie founders running a single SaaS, for SEO operators managing programmatic content networks, for publishers who care which AI systems are reading their work, and for engineering teams who want a tracker they can read end-to-end in an afternoon. It is deliberately unsuited to advertising-funded businesses that need persistent visitor identity.
